American Independence day 2015 saw almost 90 brightly dressed walkers stride out around Calf Hey Reservoir in support of East Lancashire Down’s Syndrome Support Group.
The colourful walkers included a variety of Cowboys and Indians, superheroes and cartoon characters along with baseball players, cheerleaders, Marilyn Monroe and a couple of Uncle Sams.
The day was started in spectacular fashion with the head shaving of 16 year old Hannah Shatliff. Hannah’s hair was cut by brilliant local hairdresser Michelle Roose with some help from a variety of fancy dress clad walkers. Through her fantastic efforts Hannah raised about £2500 for the group. She has also donated her hair to the Little Princess Charity who make wigs for children going through cancer treatment.
Following her head shaving the walkers set off around the reservoir in the fine Lancashire sunshine.
Many thanks to all walkers and their supporters in helping raise £5k for the group.
Special thanks to Michelle Roose for Hannah’s hair cutting and Anna-Lucia Stone for her photographs.
